Compassion In Action - Moldova
Crossroads Compassion Project fully understands and believes in the importance of helping others. We believe that in order for compassion to be real, it requires action.
Many of our CIA projects are totally anonymous. For instance, we have helped several impoverished families make repairs to their homes. We recently helped a family resolve a very serious mold problem that enabled them to remain in their home. We are currently helping a group of 4 siblings (orphans) maintain a safe place where they can live together. These young people are being supervised and mentored as they learn the life skills necessary for them to become independent.
We have also had many opportunities to minister to orphans, widows and impoverished families in rural villages. In recent days, we have had the opportunity to show the love of Christ to Ukrainian refugees who have fled the war and come to Moldova. Our crew has been able to meet them at the border with food and blankets and provide transportation to Chisinau. Our young people gave up their beds to the refugees. After a few days, we were then able to help them transition on to their next destination.
From our very beginning, Crossroads Compassion Project has asked our young people to find someone or some way that they can serve; particularly someone who cannot repay them in any way. Our young people immediately gravitated towards the special needs community and in 2016, they connected with a home for boys with disabilities in the Orhei Region. On many occasions we have traveled to Orhei to spend the time with the boys there. We have also done workdays there. Our activities have included painting and minor repairs.
As our relationships grew deeper with these boys, we saw an opportunity to spend time with them outside of the institution. We have had the privilege to invite a group of the boys to participate in the Chisinau International Marathon on a couple occasions. Our crew helped the boys complete races ranging anywhere from 5km to 21km (13.1mi) by pushing them in special adaptive wheelchairs. The memories and friendships made at these races will last a lifetime!
Most recently, we have connected with Complexul Phoenix. This is an amazing organization in Northern Moldova that serves people with disabilities. Some of our young people serve there as volunteers for camps, and they make occasional day trips to spend time serving these incredible people.
Compassion In Action – U.S.
We also recognize the need to serve those a little closer to home. One such example was our first CIA project in Welch WV. CCP was able to serve about 650 people in that community. We traveled to Welch, and we spent the day beside the river, in the park. We had a free concert, and each student got a backpack, school supplies, hygiene items, a pair of shoes and socks, and 300 people received a new winter coat.
More recently, we were able to serve 400 students in Craven County, NC at Havelock Middle School. Each student received a new backpack and school supplies to help kick off the ’22-23 school year. We will continue to help serve the students in this community, by helping to fund the startup of a new non-profit that will operate a community center for the local youth in the Havelock community. Stay tuned for more on that!
