Shortly after the fall of the former Soviet Union, a unique relationship began to develop through an initiative called Partnership for Peace.  A strong and long-lasting partnership began to build between the United States, and more specifically, the State of North Carolina and the Republic of Moldova.  The partnership was formalized in 1999 and it continued to strengthen, grow and it continues to thrive today.  This partnership has been mutually beneficial for the State of NC and the Republic of Moldova.

Crossroads Compassion Project has taken an active role in the partnership since 2012 and has been recognized for serving the people of Moldova.

From the Secretary of State of NC:
The North Carolina - Moldova Partnership was formalized on April 22, 1999 by the Republic of Moldova and the State of North Carolina.  It has since evolved into a partnership that includes the efforts of many more organizations and individuals to include private firms, civic organizations and non-profit agencies.  The partnership is a bi-lateral association with planning committees in both North Carolina and the Republic of Moldova who work together in a cooperative effort to improve and enrich the lives of everyone it touches

The North Carolina - Moldova Partnership for Peace program is based upon an agreement to link these two states together to better facilitate cooperation in the areas of civil emergency operations, expansion of markets, cultural, scientific and academic exchanges, and the coordination of humanitarian efforts of many governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The Memorandum of Principles and Procedures Between the Republic of Moldova and the State of North Carolina Concerning their Desire to Strengthen their Good Relations” was signed on September 30, 2015 by Pat McCrory, Governor of the State of North Carolina, in Raleigh, North Carolina. On October 9, 2015 the Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Chisinau, Moldova, by Elaine F. Marshall, Secretary of State of North Carolina; Andrei Galbur, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration; and Valeriu Strelet, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
This Partnership, which was forged out of the NATO Partnership for Peace in 1999, is formally renewed every five years. The agreement outlines the shared commitment of the governments of North Carolina and Moldova to the goals of mutual coordination and understanding.
